Understand Delivery Channels

Choose the right channel for subscriptions and know when a channel belongs in escalation policy instead.

Subscription channels

  • Push for fast personal visibility without sending a page.
  • Email for broad awareness and written history.
  • SMS or Voice when the workspace has the SMS and voice integration enabled.
  • WhatsApp when the workspace has WhatsApp delivery enabled.
  • Teams or Slack DM when those workspace channels are connected.

Use subscriptions for awareness

  • Use subscriptions when someone wants to stay informed.
  • Use subscriptions for service owners, managers, and partner teams who should see incident movement.
  • Use subscriptions when the target is a system, function, or tag and the person is not part of the live page chain.

Use escalation policy for paging

  • Use user escalation policy when the person is an on-call responder.
  • Use escalation policy when delay order matters.
  • Use escalation policy when the workspace needs guaranteed delivery attempts instead of passive notification.
