Guide
Create an Email Source
Ingest alert emails into Beacon and capture a real message before you map anything.
Before you start
- Have a real alert email from the system you want to ingest.
- Know which sender addresses should be allowed to deliver into the source.
Do this
- In
Alerts, create a new source and choose the email source kind. - Name the source after the tool or mailbox responders will recognize.
- Add the sender allowlist and any subject prefix rules you need.
- Save the source and copy the generated address or delivery instructions.
- Forward one real alert email or trigger a test email from the sending system.
- Wait for Beacon to capture the sample email before you move on to mapping and routing.
Check it worked
- The source saves successfully.
- Beacon shows that it captured a sample email.
- The captured message matches the sender and format you expected.
If it does not work
- If the sample never arrives, verify the sender address and any mail-forwarding rules.
- If the wrong mail is being accepted, tighten the allowlist before you use the source in production.
- If the email format is inconsistent, capture a cleaner example before you map fields.
